The Aparte Project

– We are here ...

The Aparte Project

And I felt my body dwindling, melting, becoming nothing.
My fears melted away and in their place came acceptance.
All this vast majesty of creation, it had to mean something
Yes, smaller than the smallest, I meant something too.
and then I meant something too.
To God there is no zero: I still exist.

The Incredible Shrinking Man

The Aparte Music

Just a little bit of it can bring you up or down.
Like the supper it is cooking in your hometown.
It is chicken, it is eggs,
it is in between your legs.
It is walking on the moon,
leaving your cocoon.
...
'Cos it's only knock and knowall, but I like it.

Genesis: IT

The Aparte Lyrics

Dear diary, what a day it's been.
Dear diary, it's been just like a dream.
Woke up late. Wasn't where I should have been.
For goodness sake what's happening to me.
...
Somebody exploded an H-bomb today.
Write lightly, yours truly, dear diary.
But it wasn't anyone I knew.

The Moody Blues: Dear Diary

Meistens kommt The Aparte Music zuerst.

There he stands, leaning on the parapet of the bridge, staring into the sea, that cold, bottomless world of nothingness. He feels strangely akin to those alluring waves, and suddenly he’s almost overcome by homesickness. Then the first drops of rain hit the water, and he wanders home, a smile on his face…

Back to the sea

MUSIC: MARTIN GULDBERG
LYRICS: JOHN THEODOR THOMSEN & MARTIN GULDBERG

Clouds pouring rain
on my roof, down the lane.
Blow, blow my way,
come and take me away,
back to the sea.

Rain, ease my fears,
rust my chains, drown my tears.
Set, set me free,
take me back to sea,
back to the sea.

To the sea,
shadowless in darkness, drifting silently.
Back to the sea,
wo-ho-ho, forever free.

Time out of mind
I’ve been searching to find
peace, peace within.
Tell me where to begin,
back in the sea.

To the sea,
shadowless in darkness, drifting silently.
Back to the sea,
wo-ho-ho, forever free.

All I want is to go back,
dissolve and vanish in-

to the sea,
shadowless in darkness, drifting silently.
Back to the sea,
wo-ho-ho, forever free.

Back where we came
to a place with no name.
Feel, feel no sorrow,
have no fear for tomorrow,
back in the sea.

To the sea,
shadowless in darkness, drifting silently.
Back to the sea,
wo-ho-ho, forever free.
Forever free.
Forever free

When I finally gave in, I gave you my body and soul to mould. I thought that was what love was about. But then, all of a sudden you were gone, and I was left on my own. In fact, less than on my own - I was nobody, because you had taken away everything that was me.

Lean Upon You

MUSIC: MARTIN GULDBERG
LYRICS: MARTIN GULDBERG / JOHN THEODOR THOMSEN

After all these burning years, can’t believe this is the end.
Now my life is drowned in tears for a lover and a friend.

Suddenly you said goodbye, you had to live on your own.
Least you could have told me why, but you just left me alone.

Please come back to me, you belong to me.
Please come back to me, you’re the one for me.
Won’t you please come back, ‘cause you’re the only on for me, oh Lord!

And I lean upon you, you know I lean upon you.
Lean upon you, you know I lean upon you.

I’d give everything I own just to have you here beside me.
You’re the only love I’ve known, need your loving arms to guide me.

Please, please come back to me, you belong to me.
Please come back to, you’re the one for me.
Won’t you please come back, ‘cause you’re the only on for me, oh Lord!

And I lean upon you, you know I lean upon you.
Lean upon you, you know I lean upon you.

Tell me how am I to live my life without you,
all I ever think of is you.
Tell me how am I to look into the mirror,
all there is to know about me is you.

Lean upon you, you know I lean upon you.
Lean upon you, you know I lean upon you.
Lean upon you, you know I lean upon you.
Lean upon you, you know I lean upon you.
I lean upon you, yeah, yeah, oh.

He’s the man in the crowd - just another pedestrian waiting for the lights to change, crossing the street, queuing up for the bus, hurrying for whatever he calls home. You probably won’t notice him, and you may be forgiven for not wondering what’s on his mind. But just in case you do…

Traveller

MUSIC: MARTIN GULDBERG
LYRICS: JOHN THEODOR THOMSEN

I’m a traveller of untravelled regions, a teller of untold tales.
I’m a warrior of unwarring legions, forever questing for unholy grails,
questing for unholy grails, ooh-yeah.

I’m a charterer of uncharted oceans, a reader of invisible signs.
And I’m stirring up those wild emotions, forever searching for worlds out of time,
searching forever and ever for worlds out of time, ooh-yeah.

O-oh, I’m a traveller, I’ve got dust on my sleeve from imaginary lands.
O-oh, I’m a traveller, got a suitcase of dreams in my hands.

I’m a clear-sighted seer of unseen things, a visionary deaf-dumb- and-blind.
I’m a passing bird with featherless wings, on the clouded horizon of my mind,
the clouded horizon, the clouded horizon of my mind, ooh-yeah.

O-oh, I’m a traveller, I’ve got dust on my sleeve from imaginary lands.
O-oh, I’m a traveller, got a suitcase of dreams in my hands.
O-oh, I’m a traveller, I’ve got dust on my sleeve from imaginary lands.
O-oh, I’m a traveller, got a suitcase of dreams in my hands.

I’m true believer among unbelievers, devoted to a long-lost cause;
deceived by all you sweet deceivers, but I never regretted the loss,
never regretted, no never regretted the loss, ooh-yeah.

But I never could find the power to be a lover in a loveless world.
No, I never could find the power to be a lover in a loveless world.
I never could find the power to be a lover in a loveless world.
No, I never could find the power to be a lover in a loveless world.

Dear little one, I know we’re paving your way with disaster,
but you’ll find that out soon enough. In the meantime, let’s pretend everything is going to be all right,
and when you finally learn the truth, we’ll probably be long dead and gone.

Armageddon Avenue

MUSIC: MARTIN GULDBERG
LYRICS: JOHN THEODOR THOMSEN

Hush now, baby, don’t you cry,
go to sleep, forget that hole up in the sky.
Tomorrow daddy’s gonna buy
needle and thread to mend it, close your eyes.

Someday, baby, you will find
that what is lost is lost and better left behind.
So go to sleep now, child of mine,
sweet dreams will wipe those dead seas off your mind.

I’m always by your side on Armageddon Avenue,
Just overlook the signs and all that’s coming for you.
Together we will walk down Armageddon Avenue,
forget about the times and all that’s getting at you.

So don’t you worry ‘bout a thing,
fear not for tomorrow, what the rain might bring.
I’ll be here to tuck you in
as long as there are lullabies to sing.

I’m always by your side on Armageddon Avenue,
just overlook the signs and all that’s coming for you.
Together we will walk down Armageddon Avenue,
forget about the times and all that’s getting at you.

I’m always by your side on Armageddon Avenue,
just overlook the signs and all that’s coming for you.

I’m a butterfly, that much I know. My life is short but sweet. Lately, though, a strange dream has been haunting me. I could never tell my butterfly friends about this, so please keep it to yourself: What if I weren’t a butterfly at all, but instead a man, who dreamt of being a butterfly... who was really a butterfly with dreams of being a man... who was really...?

Butterfly Dreams

MUSIC: MARTIN GULDBERG
LYRICS: JOHN THEODOR THOMSEN

Woke up in darkness, feeling strange,
what could have happened, something changed.
I tried to sleep again, but felt so scared
that I would vanish into air.

Nothing was quite the way it seemed,
then I recalled this eerie dream:
I was a butterfly up in the sky,
on careless wings, just soaring high.

But when I turned to touch your face,
you seemed to’ve left without a trace.
I couldn’t get the thought from haunting me
this nightmare wouldn’t set me free.

Now I just don’t know what to feel,
can’t tell my dream from what is real.
Am I a butterfly that dreams my life,
or just a man who yearns to fly?

Butterfly dreams, butterfly dreams,
nothing is what it seems.
Butterfly dreams, butterfly dreams,
nothing is what it seems.

The sun is rising in the east,
this is the moment of release.
I’ve gotta fly before I fold my wings,
no matter what this short life brings.

Now as I pass my blooming day,
a fleeting image comes my way
about a man locked in his own mad mind,
with dreams of being butterfly.

Butterfly dreams, butterfly dreams,
nothing is what it seems.
Butterfly dreams, butterfly dreams,
nothing is what it seems.

Butterfly dreams, butterfly dreams,
nothing is what it seems.
Butterfly dreams, butterfly dreams,
nothing is...

Caught in the eye of a twilight mind,
‘tween the dark of the night and the light of day.
Frozen in time in the threshold climb
‘tween the tick and tock of time.

Butterfly dreams, butterfly dreams,
nothing is what it seems.
Butterfly dreams, butterfly dreams,
nothing is what it seems.

Just in case you’re wondering: Yes, you were the fly in amber, with which I dared not tamper. And yes, you made all the difference to me, so who can blame me for not setting you free? Any the wiser? Me neither.

Fly In Amber

MUSIC: MARTIN GULDBERG
LYRICS: JOHN THEODOR THOMSEN

So soft and smooth...

So soft and smooth, like a tender face,
oh, to feel the touch of this precious stone.
A light that shines with the sweetest grace,
like a lantern burning to guide me home.

I found it once on a lonely beach,
on the water’s edge, drowning in the sun.
It stole a heart no one else could reach,
there was no escape and no will to run.

So far away, yet so close to me,
like a fly in amber that once were free.
Sweet memories of a long gone day,
fly in amber, don’t fly away.

So deep within, there’s an ancient heart,
oh, to feel and know it still beats for me.
But if I tried, would it fall apart,
slip between my fingers and back to sea?

So far away, yet so close to me,
like a fly in amber that once were free.
Sweet memories of a long gone day,
fly in amber, don’t fly away, don’t fly away, no.

So far away, yet so close to me,
like a fly in amber that once were free.
Sweet memories of a long gone day,
fly in amber, don’t fly away, don’t fly away.

Now years have flown past the windy shore,
washed away my footsteps across the sand.
In times of sad, I would look for more,
but I always came back with empty, empty hands.
